July 2025

Can technology transform how we understand and treat mental health?

From AI and EEG headsets to targeted self-help apps, new technologies are opening up exciting possibilities for how we diagnose, monitor, and manage mental health conditions.

Our latest report explores a range of non-drug, non-therapy innovations designed to support young people experiencing challenges such as depression.

These include:

  • Targeted wellbeing apps tailored for specific communities

  • AI diagnostic tools that analyse speech, behaviour, and vital signs through smartphone cameras

  • Wearable EEGs to track stress and focus in real time

  • Virtual Reality (VRET) for exposure therapy

  • Neuromodulation techniques, such as transcranial focused ultrasound (tFUS), for treating depression

This report was led by Clara Freitas Dos Santos Livingston, in collaboration with YPMH.
